Hi, I'm interested in running an Imperial Guard Dark Heresy game myself, and even toying with the idea of using the WH40K tabletop rules to handle large skirmishes. I would be interested in swapping idea's with you on this ?

As regards your comment on the Toughness characteristic and character wounds; In my opinion Toughness acts as an invisible 'wounds soak' for the characters, although I appreciate what you say about the relation between a character Toughness and the number of Wounds they have. Maybe a characters starting wounds should be there TB x 3 ?

As for damage, on one occasion I used the following rule;

Damage up to the characters TB came off their Wound total as normal. Any damage remaining after this became Critical Damage. This was very lethal but did teach the characters a few lessons in combat avoidance !!!

I went to the Olney store. There weren't any signs or indication of a grand-opening type of event. The store was pretty crowded and most of the tables had games going which was nice to see. I didn't see any special merchandise and I didn't get a discount on the fortified manor house, although I didn't have the White Dwarf coupon either.

Pleasantly surprised? Interesting.

Chemistry is all in a good rpg campaign, but for Cons and Tourneys this does seem to provide the streamlining necessary for the Find/kill the widget type game. Perhaps that environment is the targeted area.

Even then, I have enjoyed some Con sessions (GenCon, Origins) with perfect strangers on a time budget. I can see the structure focusing people into more achievements.

Of course I agree Dave, that is why I never tried RPGA before. That said, there was about as much role playing going on as time would allow and it wasn't discouraged. The time pressure kept it brief, but the R wasn't missing by any means. In fact I would say I was pleasantly surprised overall which is why I wrote it up. I have been in games with no restrictions where there was a lot less role playing going on.
