Historicon 2008: Day Two

Posted by Brett on July 25th, 2008 filed in Conventions, Game Reports, Miniatures

Another good day at the convention. Started the day by running a game using my most recent revision of the Tanzanica (Warning: Site Layout Is Broken at Tanzanica Site) rules. The game was called “Something Has Gone Horribly Wrong With The Safari” and indeed, things went horribly wrong with all the safaris on the table as they tried to achieve their objectives. Explorers were shot with arrows, cursed by witch doctors, gored by Cape Buffalos and speared by pygmies but in the end only one of the four safaris was completely destroyed and all the others made it back after reaching their goals. I think I was too soft on them, will be meaner in tomorrow’s game. Ed was running his Lt. Rigby Afghan game and it looked like it was rolling along nicely on the other table and I know Brendan ran his French Foreign Legion massacre in the afternoon as well.

After the game I went off to help out again at the Warlord Games table. Another good day of talking about cool miniatures and meeting old friends as they walked by. Good company but Rich’s keen eye kept me from swiping the testudo figure to get some photos, cursed boy is too observant for his own good, I’ll get by him before the show is over however…

Anyway, somehow Paul Sawyer from Warlord Games spotted yesterday’s post so I will have to be careful about what I write next. Paul, if you spot this one I came across the funniest blonde joke, click here to see it. You will love it.

Ok, now that Paul is gone here is a sneak peek of a figure they haven’t sneak peeked yet at the Warlord SIte’s Sneak Peak, some really nice celtic cavalry. We have been showing these off all show, but I wasn’t pleased with how they looked as they are a metal plastic hybrid which meant that the plastic looked good but the metal was too shiny and you couldn’t see the great detail on the fig so I brought one back to my room to black up a bit. The horse is metal with some black wash on it the rider is plastic also with some wash. It isn’t a photo good enough for a catalog, but hey you get what you pay for here.

Gah! Hoodwinked in such a base fashion.
And you’ve managed to get pics of the Celtic Cavalry before our own site!

Hmmm, this boy is good - time to increase security on the Testudo…
