Wild World War Two
Posted by Brett on April 8th, 2008 filed in Game Reports, MiniaturesLast night we played a nice World War Two game a friend is working on. It is infantry only so far and card based, which took some getting used to, but everyone thought the idea was sound. Played quickly once we got the basics down.
The rules are far from polished, and there was some debate about the length and tone of them, however we got two games played nobody felt completely robbed. The cards will need careful balancing for the final game I think, both games had mortar hits, which come in cards that were devastating and one game had one player really hurting for any sort of useful card. In a card driven game there will need to be some thought as to making sure each player still feels in control of their force.
The game is meant to be played in a two by two board, which felt odd to me as the rules allow you to deploy up to a foot in so you could start nose to nose. Movement was pretty limited as well by the tight space, with two ten man US squads and two 12 man German squads on the small space it turned pretty much into a fire fight from the word go. Still, a good night and the rules look like they could be great fun once they are sharpened up some.
Ed had some nice looking US GIs and Chort had some good looking Germans. Todd brought a ton of new tank models which were terrain only for the game but still good fun to push around the table and go Vrrrrooooom with. All in all another good night for the Monday Night Adventurers!
