Salt Crystals
Posted by Dave Choat on March 22nd, 2006 filed in Miniatures, TipsI painted up some Tau auxiliaries (Kroot and Kroothounds) using a wacky method. After spraying them with a base color of light grey (and letting that dry) I then spritzed them with water and shook large grains of kosher salt on them. After that dried I sprayed them with a much darker grey color. After THAT dried I took a toothbrush and removed much of the salt, revealing a small irregularly speckled grainy texture. Looks interesting and organic.
Note to self, use a stiffer brush next time to remove the crystals better, as a few stayed on and were only removed later after other paints had gone on. Interesting technique I adapted from Swannysmodels.com.
